Magneto–optical Kerr Effect in Semi–infinite Inhomogeneous Layered Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The contour integration technique applied to calculate the optical conductivity tensor at finite temperatures in the case of inhomogeneous surface layered systems within the framework of the spin– polarized relativistic screened Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker band structure method is extended to arbitrary polarizations of the electric field. It is shown that besides the inter–band contribution, the contour integration technique also accounts for the intra-band contribution too. Introducing a layer–resolved complex Kerr angle, the importance of the first, non–magnetic buffer layer below the ferromagnetic surface on the magneto–optical Kerr effect in the Co | Ptm multilayer system is shown. Increasing the thickness of the buffer Pt, the layer–resolved complex Kerr angles follow a linear dependence with respect to m only after nine Pt mono–layers. ∗Corresponding author. Limitations of the two-media approach in calculating magneto–optical properties of layered systems
It is shown that in polar geometry and normal incidence the 2 × 2 matrix technique – as discussed in detail in a preceeding paper [1] – accounts correctly for multiple reflections and optical interferences, and reduces only in the case of a periodic sequence of identical layers to the Fresnel formula of reflectivity, which in turn is the theoretical basis of the two–media approach, widely used ...
متن کاملLongitudinal Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect in Ce:YIG Thin Films Incorporating Gold Nanoparticles
We report an experimental study on optical and magneto-optical properties of Cesubstituted yttrium iron garnet thin films incorporating gold nanoparticles. Au nanoparticles were formed by heating Au thin film on cubic quartz and garnet substrate in vacuum chamber and a Ce:YIG layer was deposited on them by the aid of Pulsed laser deposition method. A large enhancement of the longitudinal Kerr e...
متن کاملAb–initio calculation of Kerr spectra for semi–infinite systems including multiple reflections and optical interferences
Based on Luttinger’s formulation the complex optical conductivity tensor is calculated within the framework of the spin–polarized relativistic screened Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker method for layered systems by means of a contour integration technique. For polar geometry and normal incidence ab–initio Kerr spectra of multilayer systems are then obtained by including via a 2× 2 matrix technique all mu...

We studied magnetophotonic crystals (MPCs) with introduced magneticdefect layer sandwiched between magnetic and dielectric Bragg mirrors. Thesemagnetophotonic crystals have excellent capabilities to enhance reflection and Kerrrotation simultaneously. By adjusting spatial configuration such as repetition numbersof Bragg mirrors and thickness of magnetic defect layer, we a...
متن کاملDevelopment of Novel Magneto-plasmonic Sensors of Interest in Space Applications
Technological advances in sensor designs (e.g. increased sensitivity) may be achieved by combining plasmonic and magneto-optical materials, thus leading to magneto-plasmonic systems. Noble metal-ferromagnetic systems, such as Au/Co/Au trilayers and Au/FePd bilayers, are candidates for magneto-plasmonic systems, where surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) may be modulated by externally applied magne...
